Dumas Wesley Community Center partners with numerous dedicated volunteers who help us carry out our ministries.
Youth volunteers include students from UMS-Wright Preparatory School, St. Paul’s Episcopal School, Alabama School of Math and Science, church youth groups, students from Springhill College and the University of South Alabama. During the Spring and Summer months, students enjoy spending their spring and summer breaks taking part in home renovation projects for the elderly in the Crichton neighborhood.
For many years, the members of the Junior League of Mobile have volunteered in our day care as reading buddies, and taught the children music, art and dance. The Junior League also sponsors the popular “Super Saturdays” held at DWCC. Super Saturdays provide the opportunity for the children and youth at DWCC to attend cultural events including musicals, play and art exhibits.
Volunteers in our S.A.I.L. program come from the Retired Senior Volunteers Program and Volunteer Mobile, and assist with serving meals and planning activities for the senior citizens in the program.
The United Way of Southwest Alabama’s annual “Day of Caring” brings and the University of Mobile’s “Day of Service” brings dozens of volunteers to DWCC to paint, repair, do yard work and entertain neighborhood children.
