VOLUNTEERING AT DUMAS WESLEY COMMUNITY CENTER
Dumas Wesley Community Center partners with numerous dedicated volunteers who help us carry out our ministries.
Youth volunteers include Volunteer Mobile’s Impact Club, students from UMS-Wright Preparatory School, St. Paul’s Episcopal School, Alabama School of Math and Science, church youth groups, students from Springhill College and the University of South Alabama and other organizations. During the Spring and Summer months, students come from throughout the nation arrive with church mission groups to repair and paint houses for the elderly in the Crichton neighborhood.
For many years, the members of the Junior League of Mobile have volunteered in our day care as reading buddies, and taught the children music, art and dance. The Junior League also sponsors the popular “Super Saturdays” held at DWCC. Super Saturdays provide the opportunity for the children and youth at DWCC to attend cultural events including musicals, play and art exhibits.
Volunteers in our S.A.I.L. program come from the Retired Senior Volunteers Program and Volunteer Mobile, and assist with serving meals and planning activities for the senior citizens in the program.
The United Way of Southwest Alabama’s annual “Day of Caring” brings dozens of volunteers to DWCC to paint, repair, do yard work and read to the day care children.
Through the Foster Grandparents program, senior citizens come and assist our day care teachers daily, providing their own special kindness and nurturing for the children. Volunteers at our Sybil H. Smith Family Village do repairs, office work and sponsor social events for families who reside there.
To volunteer at Dumas Wesley, please contact our Coordinator of Programs, Kathy Langham, at 479-0649.

DWCC’S ANNUAL “WALK FOR FAMILIES”
Each year, on the second Saturday of March, Dumas Wesley Community Center holds its annual “Walk for Families.” This is a five-mile walk/run, and a three-mile walk along Springhill Avenue and Dauphin Street. Individuals, families, organizations and others participate as walkers, runners or volunteers. Proceeds go directly to support the programs of Dumas Wesley. If you would like to participate, call Clara Ester at Dumas Wesley at 479-0649.
CELEBRATIONS
Would you like to host a Birthday Party for the families of Sybil H. Smith Family Village? Birthday Parties are usually held every three months, on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, for all mothers and children who have had a birthday during those three months. This is a wonderful opportunity for your youth group, Class, service club or other organization to share in this special time.
As the host group, we ask that you bring refreshments, paper products and a small gift for each birthday honoree. We will provide you with names and ages. Parties usually last about two hours.
Also, our families always enjoy celebrating holidays! If you would like to host a Christmas Party, Valentine Party, Halloween Party, Fourth of July or other special occasion, give us a call.
