Day Care Program
Founded in 1903 to serve the children of mothers working in the cotton mill village of Crichton, Dumas Wesley Day Care Center is one of the oldest day care centers in the state, and has grown and evolved to meet the needs of modern day working families.
The day care center provides quality, licensed childcare for children ages 6 weeks to 14 years, from 6:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. A comprehensive educational program is offered that assists the child through his/her developmental stages. Learn more...
Youth Programs
Dumas Wesley's Youth At-Risk Program has been in existence for over 35 years. The program serves youth in the Crichton community, ages 6-18.

Sybil H. Smith Family Village Transitional Housing Program
The Sybil H. Smith Family Village transitional housing program began serving homeless women and their children in July, 1999. To date, we have served 206 women and 261 children. Referrals to the transitional housing program are made by several United Way Agencies, the Department of Human Resources, and other community agencies in four counties.
The Sybil H. Smith Family Village transitional housing program seeks to help homeless families establish and maintain self-sufficiency. Seniors Program
The Dumas Wesley Seniors Program provides senior citizens age 60 and over with dependable transportation to medical appointments and with activities through a daily Seniors Assisted In Living (S.A.I.L.) program. Learn more...
Community Outreach
Community Outreach has been a priority of Dumas Wesley for over 100 years. It serves the Crichton community, the boundaries of which are Florida Street to I-65, and Dauphin Street to Stone Container (Cotton Street), including Liberty Park. Through this program, all ages are served, from birth to death. Seventy-five percent of the population served is African American and 25% Caucasian/Other. Average annual income is $7,500 or less.
The purpose of our community outreach program is:
- To provide direct daily contact with the Crichton neighborhood's low-income families
- Providing a liaison between the community's citizens and governmental entities.
- Monitoring senior citizens for emergency needs.
- Provides an annual Christmas Toy Store to underprivileged families.
Other Services/Programs
Monitoring of Home Day Care Feeding Program - Dumas Wesley staffs the monitoring of the feeding program in over 90 home daycares in Mobile and Washington Counties.
Emergency Funding for Utility Bills and Rent/Mortgage Payments - Families needing assistance with utility bills and rent/mortgage payments are assessed and provided with funds received through FEMA.
Food Pantry - Families from throughout the area are able to obtain food from Dumas Wesley's Food Pantry once per month. The Food Pantry is open Tuesday through Thursday, 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. This program is funded through FEMA and donations from churches.
Assistance with Income Tax Returns - Volunteers assist with free income tax preparation every Tuesday until April 16 each year.
